good article, franson would cost a 1st rd pick which is likely a top 3 in next years draft. I like your angle on getting liles, as a habs fan I would hate that deal! but feaster could have the upper hand and get liles, colbourne for 3rd rd pick. the leafs are that desperate, giving away liles is huge to them as i'm sure they would've bought out liles if there was 3 compliance buyouts. Colbourne is a low prospect in my mind, hes been around for a few years and doesn't fit in top 9, but would in cgy. |

This is news. Were desperate? really? Toronto would be better off with any of the following:
1. Taking the first and third from another teams offer sheet
2. putting Liles in the minors
3. Signing Franson later this year.
4. Trading Franson to one of 10 other teams for something better then CALGARY's third round pick.
5. buy out Liles - we got the money.
There is no way what your prosing is even remotely reasonable for Toronto.

Liles + D'Amigo for a cowboy hat. - Blazed
Ding ding ding we have a winner!
I'm reluctant to trade Colborne for the simple fact that he is a centre, and we currently are weak at that position. There's a one in a jillion chance Colborne becomes a #1 centre, but I think the Leafs need to retain him because we are so lacking in prospects at arguably the most important position.
We'll trade you Liles and a middling prospect for absolutely nothing. I don't think the Leafs want an 8th defenceman back - we already have too many of those.
Liles and D'Amigo for a 4th rounder. Do the deal over lunch, and MLSEL picks up the tab.
Good morning, my Flamey friends. |

How about Franson and Colborne for 2 first round picks and a second? That's closer to reasonable than your proposal. - akermack
1. What offer sheet?
2. Liles in the minors is a terrible idea - all but $925,000 of his salary would still count against the cap.
3. Maybe. But we'd be better off trading Liles for nothing.
4. Re-read the article - it was Liles for a 3rd, not Franson.
5. Why would you take that cap hit, when you can trade him to Calgary for a cowboy hat? |

Yeah we aren't getting that, I'd throw in a prospect just to get a thank you card signed by Jay Feaster.
I'd be absolutely thrilled if Nonis pulled out any value. |

Corrected the Liles for Franson. but there is no desperation here- reread the post.

I don't think you have to add a prospect to get rid of Liles. He's a pretty good PMD and can run a secondary powerplay unit. Leafs could probably get rid of him for a 2nd or 3rd easily. |

its about the cap situation. you cant hide liles in the minors, you only get 900k cap relief, just getting rid of him, giving away helps big time. franson is good and you have to sign kadri, your centres are terrible. nonis doesn't hold leverage, shoe away liles, give franson that cap hit |

To CGY --> JM Liles, S Percy, 2nd Round Pick
To TOR --> M Cammalleri (50% contract retained by CGY)
Leaves cap room to sign Franson and Kadri, while giving you dynamic scoring threats on top 3 lines along left side when you add in JVR and Lupul. For Calgary this brings in veteran player, a good prospect and a high pick, creating more ice time for younger players. Why hold onto Cammalleri and risk injury before deadline, plus you are going to pay him that sunk salary anyways if you keep him until February. Very likely Cammalleri accepts the trade, though I am not clear on what protection Liles would have. |

But they're desperate. You always ask for a prospect when you want the upper hand.

Oh Leafs fans...
1. No team will offersheet at the cost of a 1st and 3rd, dream on.
2. Sure, I guess.
3. What? lol. You think he will sign after having to sit out part of the season? Dream on buddy.
4. Once again, good luck.
5. You don't have a 3rd buyout, thanks for showing where your knowledge base is at.

As per #5, August 2-4 is the NORMAL (non CBA) buyout window. Normal buyouts that count against cap. Geez, does anyone on this site know hockey? |
